The organisation was established by dedicated and highly passionate Christian women, with a common concern regarding the state of children, adolescents, women and their families in society. HIWA commenced officially early 2016, leading to the registration as a non-profit organisation, with a tax exemption for public benefit (PBO). In order to positively impact on the family system, and ultimately, society, HIWA aims to: holistically educate, empower, uplift, assist and guide women, children and adolescents in relation to their developmental, psychological and physical needs.
HIWA was founded by Penny Mathumbu, who then partnered with two like-minded women, Esther Motsepe and Tintswalo Ngobeni. These women saw a need to utilize their collective expertise and skills, in conjunction with biblical principles to bring about change in their identified population. They wanted to be the difference they have longed to see in their communities and transform the realities experienced by their identified target group. Through these collective skills, they endeavour to unleash God-given potential (without imposing their beliefs), inspiring individuals to become valuable members of society, and live fulfilled lives.
